How it works

No account, no install, nothing to configure beyond one free API key. If you've never used an API key before, this page walks through every step.

What this tool does

PsiPi runs your preprint through four AI reviewer personas and an AI editor persona, entirely in your web browser, and gives you back a narrative, referee-report-style critique — built for the natural sciences. Think of it as a fast, brutally specific first read before you send your manuscript somewhere that matters. Because it's AI-generated, treat it as a starting point for revision, not a final verdict.

Step 1 — Get a free Gemini API key

  1. Go to aistudio.google.com/apikey.
  2. Sign in with any Google account (a personal Gmail account works fine).
  3. Click “Create API key”.
  4. Copy the long string that starts with “AIza” — that's your key.

This key is free for normal use. You are not asked for a credit card to create one.

Step 2 — Paste it into PsiPi

On the submission page, paste your key into the first field. It is used only to call Google's API directly from your own browser — there is no PsiPi server for it to be sent to, so we never see it, store it, or have any way to retrieve it later.

Step 3 — Upload your preprint

Upload a preprint as a PDF, Word (.docx), or LaTeX (.tex) file — it's extracted to text right in your browser. The title and abstract on your manuscript's own title page are picked up automatically, so there's nothing else to retype.

Step 4 — Target journal (optional)

If you know where you'll eventually submit, type its name — PsiPi checks it against a real public journal registry and, if matched, tells the AI editor persona to weigh your manuscript against that journal's actual standards.

Step 5 — Read the result, download the PDF

You'll see the editor's triage, then each reviewer's comments land live as they finish, then the editor's final synthesis. A “Download PDF” button turns the whole thing into a document you can keep — it's the only thing that persists after you close the tab.
